Held since 2001 at 66 degrees north on the Polar Circle itself, this is one of the only marathons anywhere that runs directly on a permanent ice cap — part of the course crosses the Greenland Ice Sheet, with the rest following a gravel road (often snow-covered) connecting the ice sheet to the small township of Kangerlussuaq.
Genuinely Demanding
October temperatures typically sit around -10°C to -15°C, and proper spikes are mandatory for the ice-cap sections — this is a real logistical and physical undertaking, not a novelty race with a cute name.
