A Genuine World Trail Major
Organised since 2013, the Vietnam Mountain Marathon has grown into one of Asia's most prestigious trail races — genuine membership in the World Trail Majors alliance places it alongside just nine other races globally, including Hong Kong 100, Transgrancanaria and Mt. Fuji 100. Vietnam is now the only Southeast Asian nation with a race in this prestigious group.
The Terrain
Set in Sapa, a spectacular mountain region in North Vietnam near the Chinese border, the course winds through golden harvest-season rice terraces, bamboo forests and remote villages of the Black Hmong, Red Dao and Tay ethnic minorities — genuinely immersive terrain rather than a generic trail backdrop.
Six Ways In
From an accessible 10km through 21km, 50km, 70km, 100km and a genuinely extreme 100-mile ultra, this race deliberately serves both first-time trail runners and serious ultra-distance competitors on the same weekend.
Daily Chore Take
The journey itself — from Hanoi to Sapa by train or road — is part of the experience here, adding genuine cultural immersion to what's already one of the most scenic trail weekends in Asia.
