HYROX RACE DAY CHECKLIST

A calm, practical checklist for the final week and the start line.

HYROX RACE DAY CHECKLIST

The Week Before

Stop adding new training load. Any fitness you're missing at this point won't arrive in six days, but fatigue absolutely will. Cut volume by roughly half, keep a little intensity (short efforts at race pace) just to stay sharp, and treat sleep as the actual final training block.

The Night Before

  • Lay out your entire kit: shoes, socks, shorts, top, wristband/timing chip if mailed ahead, any nutrition you're carrying.
  • Know your heat time and arrive-by time — HYROX venues run on tight rolling starts, and missing your window isn't always recoverable.
  • Eat a normal dinner. Nothing new, nothing "extra clean." Familiar food, enough carbs, done by a reasonable hour.
  • Pack your bag for the venue: change of clothes, flip-flops for after, a real meal for afterward (not just a bar), cash or card for the venue.

Race Morning

  • Eat 2–4 hours out: familiar carbs, not a science experiment (a version of what you've used before long training sessions is safest).
  • Arrive earlier than feels necessary. Bag check, wristband collection and warm-up space all take longer than you'd guess on a first visit.
  • Warm up like you train: a genuine pulse-raiser, a few reps of the stations you're most worried about (sled push/pull especially — first-timers consistently underestimate how much the technique matters), then dynamic mobility.

At the Start Line

  • Know your pacing plan for the first two runs specifically — going out too hard before station one is the single most common HYROX mistake.
  • Have a simple mental checklist for transitions: walk into each station, don't sprint in and arrive gassed.

After

  • Keep moving for 10–15 minutes post-finish before you sit down — a hard stop makes the legs seize up faster.
  • Eat something real within the hour, not just the banana at the finish chute.

Daily Chore Take

Nothing on this list is exciting, and that's the point — a HYROX race is decided far more by not making an avoidable mistake than by any single heroic effort. Boring, prepared, and on time beats fit-but-frantic every time.
