The Allgäu Triathlon holds a genuinely unique place in German endurance sport — first held in 1983, it was the country''s first official triathlon and remains the longest continuously running one, with 2026 marking its 44th edition.
The Course
The swim starts at the crystal-clear Großer Alpsee, followed by a technical, hilly bike route through Bräunlings, Niedersonthofen, Diepolz and Missen — the Kalvarienberg climb (up to 18% gradient) is the race''s signature moment, lined with spectators and traditional Allgäu cowbells. The run finishes at the Kleiner Alpsee, with alphorn players marking the finish.
A Genuine Festival, Not Just a Race
With an expo, a pasta party and competition briefings spread across three days, plus roughly 30,000 spectators for around 3,500 athletes, this is the largest summer sporting event in the entire Allgäu region — entry is by lottery given the strong demand.
