WHY THIS CHORE
SHOW UP READY.
The only day of the year runners get to cross the Auckland Harbour Bridge on foot — reason enough on its own.

New Zealand's Premier Road Race
Held since 1992 and celebrating its 35th edition in 2026, the Auckland Marathon has grown into New Zealand's biggest and most iconic running event — genuinely part of the city's spring calendar rather than just another race weekend.
The Bridge
The marathon and half marathon both cross the Auckland Harbour Bridge — a 33-metre climb at its highest point, and the only day each year the bridge opens to runners. The full marathon continues along the waterfront to St Heliers Bay before returning; the half finishes at Victoria Park.
Genuinely For Everyone
With five distances from a 5km family run through to the full marathon, plus a kids' race, this is deliberately built as a citywide celebration rather than a purely competitive event — "walk, run, dress up or fundraise" is the organizers' own framing.
Daily Chore Take
Southern Hemisphere spring timing makes this a genuine option for anyone chasing a second "marathon season" in the same calendar year — and the Harbour Bridge crossing alone justifies the trip.
