Where Modern Ultrarunning Was Built
First run in 1983, Leadville is one of the foundational races of American ultrarunning — rugged trails and dirt roads through the heart of the Rocky Mountains, entirely above 9,200 feet of elevation.
The Numbers
100 miles, nearly 16,000 feet of combined climbing and descending, a 30-hour cutoff — and in most years, fewer than half the field actually finishes within it.
Daily Chore Take
This isn't a race you casually decide to enter — altitude alone rules out anyone without serious high-elevation training. But for ultrarunners, finishing Leadville carries a specific kind of weight that few other 100-milers match.
