The Newest World Marathon Major
In November 2024, Sydney became the seventh race admitted to the World Marathon Majors series — the same elite status held by Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, New York City and Tokyo. It's a genuinely major addition to the global marathon calendar, not a marketing label.
The Course
Starting near the Sydney Opera House, the route crosses the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge before winding through the city and finishing beneath the Opera House sails — notable hilly sections including Oxford Street add real physical challenge alongside the scenery.
A Genuine Six Star Finisher Opportunity
Completing all seven Majors (including Sydney) now earns the official Six Star Finisher medal — Sydney's addition means the full set is achievable without needing to travel to Tokyo twice or skip a continent.
