WHY THIS CHORE
SHOW UP READY.
Strict gravel-only rules (no MTBs, no e-bikes, no aero bars), a genuine three-distance format, and the kind of small-town, forest-and-granite Bavarian backdrop that makes this feel like a proper regional classic rather than a mass-market race.

A Weekend, Not Just a Race Day
Ochsenkopf Gravel runs a full weekend rather than a single race morning: a guided community ride through the surrounding forest on Friday, event area opening plus a guided course check on Saturday, then racing on Sunday across three distances — 90km (10:00 start), 60km (10:45) and 30km (11:30).
The Region
Bischofsgrün sits at the foot of the Ochsenkopf, at 1,024m one of the highest peaks in the Fichtelgebirge — a granite-and-forest low mountain range in Upper Franconia, Bavaria, better known to most as a winter ski base than a summer gravel destination. That makes this a genuine local-scene discovery rather than an already-crowded gravel hotspot.
Strictly Gravel
The organizers are explicit about what counts as a legal bike here: gravel bikes only. Mountain bikes, recumbents, handbikes, trailers, triathlon or time-trial bars, aero bar extensions, and aluminium or glass bottles are all excluded on safety grounds; e-bikes aren't permitted either. Helmets are mandatory.
Format
Individual or team entry (teams need at least 3 riders, with at least one woman and one man for a valid team result). Results are split by gender, distance and age category, with finisher medals, timing chips, on-course and finish-line food, and race photos published afterward.
Daily Chore Take
The sister event to HarzGravel from the same organizer, Ochsenkopf Gravel trades the Harz for the Fichtelgebirge — same weekend-format philosophy, same strict gravel-only rulebook, different granite forest. A solid pick if you want a proper community gravel weekend without HarzGravel's crowds.
