WHAT TO EXPECT

VERIFIED EVENT DETAILS · DAILY CHORE EDITORIAL COMMENTARY

An Alps crossing you won't forget

The Dynafit Transalpine Run 2026 isn't your average trail running event. It's a multi-day high-alpine run that, from August 28 to September 3, 2026, crosses from Lenzerheide via the Surselva and Ticino to Locarno on Lago Maggiore. The 2026 route is brand new: it links the Rhine Gorge, the Greina plateau, historic mule trails and Ticino into one continuous stage logic.

7 stages, 7 characters

Every day has its own terrain, its own mood and its own challenge — from a short, explosive opening stage to long Alpine crossings and a finale at Lago Maggiore.

Route & elevation

The official 2026 totals come from summing the published individual stages. Note: the event website header still shows the old 2025 figures (243km / 15,135m). The table below is based on the stage data published for 2026.

Formats & entry fee

Dynafit Transalpine Run offers several formats — depending on whether you want the full Alps crossing or a shorter taste:

  • TAR Team — 2-person team, all 7 stages together. €1,407.60 per person, i.e. €2,815.20 per team.
  • TAR Solo — individual entry, all 7 stages. €1,511.10 per person.
  • RUN2 — first two stages only. €414 per person or €828 per team. The TAR shop still shows some older pricing of €300–350 in places; we recommend checking current availability directly with the organizer.

What's included in the entry fee

For the full TAR formats (Team and Solo), you get considerably more than just course access:

  • ~100-liter DYNAFIT TAR duffel bag
  • Event cap and bib belt
  • Personalized race bib
  • Digital maps and GPX tracks
  • Daily TAR dinner and lunch
  • On-course and finish nutrition on all 7 stages
  • Luggage transport between stage towns (bag up to 23kg)
  • Some shuttle services and daily drop-bag transport
  • Medical support throughout race week
  • Finisher medal and finisher shirt (full TAR finishers only)

Gear & mandatory equipment

The TAR is alpine terrain. The gear list is mandatory and checked before the start and at checkpoints:

  • Trail running shoes with sufficient tread
  • Waterproof rain jacket with taped seams (min. 10,000mm hydrostatic head)
  • Warm mid-layer, hat and gloves
  • Hydration system with at least 1L capacity
  • ID
  • Stage-dependent: shoe spikes, rockfall helmet, headlamp
  • Optional: trekking poles

Teams must additionally carry emergency gear, navigation, and a phone in their pack. Missing mandatory gear can result in disqualification.

Community & atmosphere

The organizer reports runners from 30 to 40 nations. Daily finishes, shared meals, briefings and preparing for the next day set the rhythm. Many participants speak of the "TAR Family" — a sense of togetherness that builds over seven days in the high mountains.

Who is the Dynafit Transalpine Run for?

The TAR is not a beginner race. It's built for:

  • Experienced trail runners with alpine experience
  • Two-person teams looking for a shared extreme challenge
  • Solo runners who are self-sufficient and self-reliant
  • Anyone who can run 30–50km with 2,000m+ of climbing on consecutive days

If you're planning your first trail run or first alpine race, this isn't the place to start. The TAR demands fitness, off-road experience, and the ability to physically and mentally recover across multiple days.
