A Genuine First
IRONMAN Oman marks the first time a full-distance IRONMAN has been held anywhere in the Middle East — a genuine milestone for the region and for long-distance triathlon''s global expansion, launched through a partnership with Experience Oman, the country''s tourism board.
The Course
The swim takes place in the Gulf of Oman (part of the Arabian Sea) in Muscat, the bike leg heads out of the city on quick, smooth roads before returning athletes for a run around the city and its coastline — a genuinely different late-season racing environment from Europe''s typical spring-to-autumn IRONMAN calendar.
Daily Chore Take
December racing in a warm-weather destination is a genuinely appealing way to close out a full-distance season — worth watching how this inaugural edition is received, given how quickly Middle Eastern triathlon has grown in recent years.
