Cut-off rules

The course stays traffic-free from roughly 10:00 to 16:00, with roads reopening progressively. Marathon runners must pass 20 km by 12:45 to start the second lap — later arrivals are redirected to the finish and recorded as DNF. Runners who don't finish their registered distance don't receive a medal.

Race rules

No headphones (including open-ear models). No dogs. Follow official instructions. Don't bend or damage your bib — the timing chip is built in. Clothing left at the start goes to the Red Cross.

Getting there

Odense Idrætspark connects to Odense Central Station via light rail (~9 min). Drivers can use the Park & Ride near the motorway (~800 spaces) and continue by light rail.

Finish experience

All races finish inside Odense Athletics Stadium. Finishers get water, fruit, muesli bars, sports drink, and alcohol-free beer, plus access to changing rooms and showers at Odense Idrætspark. Finisher certificates are available afterwards via the official results service.

The Funen Challenge

HCA Marathon is one of three races in the Funen Challenge. Runners registered for all three get a gold bib, and completing the full challenge in one calendar year earns an extra Funen Challenge medal.

Daily Chore take

The HCA Marathon is the kind of race that deserves more attention from runners chasing a fast time. It offers a certified, traffic-free course, useful pacing groups and a proper stadium finish — without the lottery, crowds or logistical weight of a global major. The two-lap layout is straightforward rather than spectacular, but that simplicity works in its favour: settle into a group, manage the first lap, and use the stadium as the mental marker that brings you home the second time around.

Best for: fast times, first marathons, and a compact European race weekend. Think twice if: you dislike multi-lap courses or need headphones while running.
