Speed Meets Scenery
The Wachau Marathon runs point-to-point along the Danube from Emmersdorf to Krems, through a valley that earned UNESCO World Heritage status in 2000 for its vineyards, terraced hillsides and medieval villages — genuinely rare to get both a fast course and a proper scenic backdrop in the same race.
The Course
Minimal elevation change makes this a legitimate PB-hunting course, run on the B3 road along the river. The marathon starts in Emmersdorf, the half in Spitz, and the quarter-marathon in Achleiten — all finishing together in Krems, with a relay option for teams of two to four.
Daily Chore Take
If a fast time matters as much as the setting, Wachau delivers both — a genuinely underrated alternative to Austria's bigger, more crowded Vienna City Marathon.
