WHY THIS CHORE
SHOW UP READY.
The single race every triathlete measures themselves against — genuine four-decade mystique on a course that hasn't lost its bite.

Back to a Single Day
2026 marks a genuine return to form: professional men and women race together in Kona on the same day for the first time since 2019, reuniting the format at triathlon's original home after years split between Kona and Nice.
The Course
Little has changed since the 1980s for good reason — a rough Pacific swim, a lava-field bike leg through genuinely brutal crosswinds and heat, and a marathon finishing on Ali'i Drive. The course rewards heat tolerance and patience as much as raw fitness.
Getting In
Qualification runs through IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 races worldwide — there is no direct entry; a slot has to be earned at another full or half-distance race first, often over multiple seasons.
Daily Chore Take
If full-distance triathlon is the actual goal, Kona is still the race everything else is measured against — the qualifying path is realistically a multi-year project, not a single training block.
